Hatha Yoga focuses on understanding and controlling the body, the breath, and the mind through exercises (asanas), breathing (pranayamas) techniques and meditation training. The techniques are designed to increase strength, flexibility, endurance, balance, coordination, and the ability to relax. They are also designed to release stress and muscle tension and to enhance the ability to concentrate. What is a "Viniyoga?" It is a person who is just beginning yoga, has limited flexibility, or a particular physical limitation? Vini can be translated as “special” and “individual." It can also mean “step-by step” and “gradual.” In my class, the pace is gentle and the approach is relaxed, but, as some past students can verify, your practice in this class can build to powerful workout. Adjusting a pose so it can work for you is more important than sticking with a form that is not working for your body. I want to create an atmosphere in which each student can find his or her own way to practice yoga. |
