Service Learning Program Service Learning offers students the opportunity to connect classroom instruction with real life experience through community service. Students can substitute tests scores by electing to study in the community. Students who elect this option will be asked to reflect, discuss and write about their service experience and how it relates to what they are studying in class. · May be completed in lieu of four chapter tests (the best earned scores by the student) for full credit. · Participate and volunteer 30 hours of service with an EVC department partner agency/organization throughout the semester. Project Thais is and individual project. The purpose of this exercise is to become familiar with the research, computer application and presentation processes. Moreover, to think about how to approach, communicate and assess a genetic related issue from various viewpoints (economical, environmental, legislative, societal, etc.). All viewpoints must be addressed in your project. The following is an outline that illustrates the project process. 1. Select an issue. 2. Attend a library orientation workshop if necessary (learn what resources are available and how to access them). 3. Collect information on the topic and cite sources! 4. Develop a college outline using the On Line Writing Lab (OWL) as a resource 5. Attend the biology/nursing computer lab and develop a PowerPoint Slide Presentation on your topic. 6. Record Results (how many animals are present, statistics w/data tables) 7. Interpret results (using charts) 8. Present oral presentation. The outline must include the following:
